Principles
Remanence does not rely on a proprietary backend, social account, or analytics collection. The core app remains usable locally.
No reading note, quote, review, full library, or free-form personal content is sent to Remanence for marketing analysis.
Data created in the app
The app may store locally on your device:
- books, authors, statuses, dates, ISBNs, and covers;
- notes, quotes, moods, first impressions, and later traces;
- exportable reviews, settings, themes, and preferences;
- timer sessions used for Reflections.
This data lives on your device first. It can be removed by resetting the app or deleting local data through your system settings when available.
Website
The public website does not create accounts, set marketing cookies, or add analytics, advertising pixels, or behavioral tracking.
Like any static website, the host may process technical logs needed for security, diagnostics, and page delivery, such as IP address, user agent, or requested URL.
ISBN lookup and metadata
When you add a book by scanning or entering an ISBN, the app may query BnF, Google Books, then Open Library to prefill title, author, and cover information.
These requests include the searched ISBN and technical information required for the network call. Once the book is saved, useful metadata and covers are kept locally.
Device permissions
Remanence may request camera access to scan an ISBN or create a cover, photo access to choose a cover image, and notifications for local later-trace reminders.
Timer sounds are played from local files. Remanence does not create audio recordings and does not use server push notifications for reading reminders.
Optional Google Drive backup
If you choose to link Google Drive, Remanence creates a safety archive in your Drive with your books, restorable settings, timer sessions, cover mappings, and available cover files.
Google tokens are stored in the device secure storage and are not included in the archive. The Drive scope remains limited to a user-chosen backup, without full Drive access.
You can unlink Google Drive from the app and delete the archive from your Google Drive account.
Your choices and deletion
You can use Remanence without Google Drive backup and without Premium. You may also refuse optional permissions, with limited functionality when a permission is necessary.
To delete local data, use the app or system settings. To stop Premium, use the subscription settings of the relevant store. For Drive data, delete the archive from Google Drive.
